Hello. I'm Luke Harvey (that's me in the picture to the left). I was born in Brisbane (1962) and have lived there all of my life. I grew up in a large family where my creative outlet was to draw.
Through teachers’ college, I kept up two hobbies: art and improving my golfing techniques. I have been a secondary school
teacher since 1986 and during this time have develop my painting skills.
Being a member at the Wynnum Golf Course, I have played numerous sunrise and late afternoon rounds of golf which has proved
to be an inspiration for the many paintings seen on this site.
I have always loved oil paints and can easily recall receiving my first set as a teenager. Together with oil painting and
an interest in the impressionist style of art, I have found a balance of elegance and realism in creating golf course
landscapes.
I have participated in a variety of painting workshops, with heavy influence and mentoring from
John Wilson (another Australian artist). I'd also like to acknowledge the inspiration gained from the following people: Scott McDougall, who first introduced me to painting
and impressionism; Trevor Platt,
for introducing me to the realism of painting; and Warwick Fuller,
for his plein air techniques.
At the present, I am creating a series of landscape paintings from courses around Brisbane.
I was given an Artist's Profie in the magazine Women's Golf (Autumn 2008, Issue 8). To read the profile, view the scanned pages.
